Delco Times: Casey launches new ‘moms’ group initiative in reelection campaign

  • Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey turned his attention Thursday to shoring up a significant voting bloc in his reelection campaign with the launch of a Moms Oppose McCormick coalition initiative.
  • “In every single one of our 67 counties are families worried about their future, families that have been ripped off by corporate America, families that have been left out when we do tax policy,” Casey told several dozen supporters crowding the Al Pastor Mexican restaurant Thursday morning. “Those days are over. We’re going to win these battles, we’re going to lift up these families and it’s going to start when I beat David McCormick
  • Casey was joined by Sherry Luce of grassroots female-led political organization Red Wine & Blue, and U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-5, Swarthmore, who faces her own challenge this year from Republican Alfe Goodwin.
  • Luce came out swinging as the first speaker, touting Casey’s steadfast support of pro-choice causes while blasting McCormick as anti-abortion and on a “crusade to rip away our reproductive rights.” “We have right-wing politicians like David McCormick — they have no business dictating what is going to happen, personal decisions, with our families and women,” said Luce. “He supports an abortion ban with zero exceptions, not even for rape or incest, and make no mistake: If he wins, he is another vote for a national abortion ban.”
  • “Good morning, Connecticut!” Scanlon said at the beginning of her remarks, drawing a laugh from the crowd….Turning to the race, Scanlon said it is a choice between candidates of very different character and very different backgrounds in public service.
  • Casey was quick to tout his own wins when he got the mic, saying that while he was working for Pennsylvania, McCormick was investing in China through his hedge fund.
  • Casey said the stakes in this race could not be higher for women and that there is “no common ground” with McCormick on issues like voting rights, worker’s rights and women’s rights. Casey noted McCormick said during the 2022 primary campaign that he supported only one exception for abortion and it was not rape or incest.
