Preserving Pennsylvania’s Energy Legacy

Preserving Pennsylvania’s Energy Legacy

Pennsylvania has a strong legacy of environmental conservation and a critical energy industry that has powered the country for generations. Bob Casey understands Pennsylvania’s unique energy needs and has fought for what’s best for the Commonwealth. That’s why he has the support of both the United Mine Workers of America and the League of Conservation voters.

Bob Casey is fighting to make sure Pennsylvania takes advantage of the good-paying jobs and economic opportunities of the clean energy economy. He successfully secured funding for a hydrogen hub that will bring over 20,000 good-paying union jobs to Southeastern Pennsylvania and worked to bring to fruition an Appalachian hydrogen hub that will bring economic growth to Western Pennsylvania. Bob Casey understands the economic benefits and energy independence that Pennsylvania’s energy industry provides, which is why he has opposed bans on fracking.

He passed into law what is now called the Casey Credit, which will incentivize new, high-paying jobs in over 45 counties in Pennsylvania where energy jobs like coal mining have been lost. He is an original co-sponsor of the American Energy Worker Opportunity Act which would help workers whose jobs were affected by job losses and plant closures.

Alphonsus Liguori Casey, Bob Casey’s grandfather, worked as an 11-year-old in a coal mine near Scranton to help support his family. His grandson successfully fought to extend the Black Lung Benefits Disability Trust Fund to make sure retired coal miners have the medical care they need. He also successfully shored up miners’ pensions and health care with the bipartisan American Miners Act.

While creating thousands of good-paying Pennsylvania jobs of the future and taking care of Pennsylvania workers, Bob Casey has also worked to protect our environment. He has brought home federal funding to reduce carbon emissions and build new infrastructure to support electric vehicles. He has also secured tens of millions of dollars to improve air and water quality in urban areas like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, clean up contaminated brownfield sites, and remove dangerous PFAS chemicals from drinking water.
