Fighting for Our Workers
Bob Casey is a champion for workers and organized labor. He knows that strengthening workers’ rights and the right to organize is how we build an economy that works for everyone. He is an original co-sponsor of the PRO Act and he introduced the Tax Fairness for Workers Act to allow workers to deduct union dues from their taxes. Now, he’s fighting to pass the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act to stop allowing corporations to subsidize their anti-union activities at taxpayer expense.
Bob is fighting for the care and protections that Pennsylvania workers deserve. He successfully fought to extend the Black Lung Benefits Disability Trust Fund to make sure that coal miners have the medical care they need and has pushed to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour to ensure that all workers can earn a fair wage. He has worked with members of both parties to propose bipartisan legislation to end subminimum wages for people with disabilities.
Bob also helped save thousands of Pennsylvania workers’ and retirees’ pensions as part of the American Rescue Plan, with the pensions of at least 33,100 workers and retirees in Pennsylvania plans saved so far, including pensions of thousands of AFL-CIO workers, United Steelworkers, Teamsters, and United Auto Workers. Bob also played a key role in efforts to protect the earned health care and pensions of American coal miners.
Through his work in Washington, Bob Casey has fought to pass legislation, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act, which are projected to create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs all across the Commonwealth over the next decade. He successfully fought to include “Buy American” provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act which gives companies incentives to create good-paying jobs to manufacture new clean energy products, as well as his provision to incentivize building clean energy facilities in coal communities.
Bob knows that fighting for American workers and ensuring America’s place in the global economy means standing tough against our economic adversaries. He is a leader in the fight to hold the Chinese government accountable for its currency manipulation and cheating practices that caused Pennsylvania workers to lose their jobs. Now, he’s leading bipartisan bills to force hedge funds and private equity firms to disclose their investments in China and to require U.S. corporations to notify the Treasury Department regarding investments in China that threaten our security. He has worked hard to protect Pennsylvania’s steel jobs and industry, and fought to pass a law ensuring federal infrastructure projects are built with American steel. He has fought back against trade agreements that ship jobs overseas, and will continue to work across the aisle to make sure our trade policies put American workers first.
