  • Casey said electing McCormick would allow the GOP to take control of the Senate and implement policies that would undermine “voting rights, workers rights, women’s rights.”
  • Booker: “Nobody has a better reputation in the Senate for being a bipartisan person. Blessed are the peacemakers — and [Bob Casey] is one of those folk.”
  • Casey: “When I say I’ve delivered, I think I can prove it and I think you should have to do that when you’re a candidate for reelection.”

  • Booker lauded the work that Casey, who is seeking a fourth term in the Senate, has done over the years on issues like the child tax credit, healthcare, and the ABLE Act. He later added he was “Jersey jealous” that his state doesn’t have a competitive Senate race and isn’t the “swingiest of all states,” like Pennsylvania.
  • Casey, a Scranton native and Catholic, thanked the congregation for the invitation to speak to them. He [highlighted] the “fight for rights,” in his race against GOP challenger Dave McCormick, peppering his remarks with a few religious references.
  • Casey: “A long time ago, hundreds and hundreds of years ago, St. Augustine said it pretty well: ‘without justice, what are kingdoms, but great bands of robbers,’ […] we have other political figures, other politicians who rob people of justice by their votes or by their failure to vote yes when we try to advance the cause of justice.”

  • Casey touted his record of defending voting rights, Social Security, health care and bringing home billions in federal dollars to the state, while attacking Republican David McCormick for his support of tax cuts for the highest earners.
  • Casey: “I’ve worked very hard to deliver for the people of this city, whether it’s money for schools in Philadelphia, for roads and bridges and high-speed internet, for water systems.”
  • The congregation were clearly already fans. It could be said Casey was preaching to the choir. But with a close race predicted between Casey and McCormick, Booker stressed how crucial voter turnout in Philadelphia will be in November. He urged the congregation to work on it.
  • Booker: “If we use our power over the next 80 days — that we come out and vote, that we organize, that we call our friends and neighbors and get them to the polls — we will have Kamala Harris in the highest office in the land and Bob Casey back in the United States Senate.”

  • Booker: “No Senator in Pennsylvania history has brought more dollars back to the state to invest in Pennsylvania priorities. That’s a fact. You can fact check me if you want. He is the champion for getting tax dollars, federal tax dollars, really Pennsylvania’s own tax dollars back reinvested in.”
  • Casey: “I have no doubt that our race is going to be very, very close. It will probably be a one-point race. I think the presidential race will be close and we just got to make sure that people know the difference between us; some of those differences I outlined today on voting rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights.”
