Senator Casey Joined Berks County Residents for a Moderated Discussion on the Fentanyl Crisis

PENNSYLVANIA – On Monday, Senator Bob Casey traveled to Berks County to discuss the impact of the fentanyl crisis across Pennsylvania and action he is taking to stop illegal fentanyl trafficking. His stop was part of the On Our Side Road Trip: “Fight for Our Families,” where Senator Casey is highlighting his work lowering costs for working families and combating the fentanyl epidemic that is devastating Pennsylvania communities.

Reading Eagle: Pa. voters face fundamental choices in U.S. Senate race, Casey tells supporters in Reading campaign stop

  • If Republican candidate Dave McCormick and the GOP gain control of both legislative chambers, Casey said, federal legislation to strengthen the right to vote will stand no chance, and Democratic efforts to protect a woman’s right to abortion in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade will wither on the vine.
  • Additionally, the far-right faction of the GOP may succeed in passing an anti-union-organizing bill, extending trillions of dollars in Trump-era corporate tax cuts and transforming Medicare, which provides funding to states to fund care for the elderly and disabled, into a voucher program.
  • “So I think people know these are fundamental choices,” [Casey] said. “It’s not like we’re debating around the edges. We’re debating about what’s going to happen for the next 50 years on rights, what’s going to happen to important programs for people and what’s going to happen on tax policy.”
  • “Wherever you go the fentanyl crisis has visited those communities,” [Casey] said. “So we have to be mindful that this is not just a terrible problem of the states but individuals that too many families and communities have been devastated by.”
