Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn: “[McCormick Puts] Profits Ahead of Police”

Congressman Adam Schiff: “[Senator Casey Has] Been Rock Solid in Support of Israel, Rock Solid in Combating Antisemitism”

PENNSYLVANIA — On Sunday, Senator Casey was joined by California Congressman Adam Schiff, former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, and End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller in Pittsburgh to highlight the importance of public safety and protecting democracy.

  • McCormick came under fire for his role as a hedge fund manager and was charged by Dunn and Casey for mismanaging police pensions and thus contributing to the resignation of hundreds of police officers.
  • McCormick puts “profits ahead of police,” Dunn said.
  • Casey, [Schiff] said, was a “champion of voting rights and democracy” who understands the “deep interconnection between the need to make the economy work for people and the need to protect our democracy.”
  • Casey said the race presents voters with a “very simple choice at the national level and here in Pennsylvania.” What’s on the line? A number of rights, he said, including those of workers. He pointed to his own support for the Protect the Right to Organize Act, which expands protections covering workers rights to organize and collectively bargain. McCormick would never support such a bill, Casey said.
  • “I have a long track record, decades long, of supporting workers while [McCormick] has been running a big hedge fund … that was investing in China’s companies, in China’s workers, in China’s economy.”
  • “It’s not good enough to just say you’re not going to support another effort to overturn an election,” he said. “You should not be empowering the very people who attacked the Capitol. Hiring fake electors in your campaign, like McCormick did, hiring fake electors to run your political action committee, empowering people and lifting up people and accepting the support of people who were part of the insurrection … it undermines everything some Republicans say they want to do to protect our elections.”

  • Dunn said that during the nearly 15 years he worked at the Capitol, his political leanings didn’t matter.
  • “I had Republican friends, Democrat friends, but right now it’s clear that one side is adamant about protecting democracy and the other side is adamant about tearing it down,” he said.
  • Schiff called Casey a “champion” and lauded the senator’s efforts to not only “strengthen enforcement actions” at the Office for Civil Rights, but bringing $1 million in federal funding to Tree of Life for developing and implementing a K-12 curriculum to help educators and students identify and challenge antisemitism and identity-based hate.

The Pitt News: Sen. Casey addresses campus antisemitism at Pittsburgh campaign event

  • “I’m the leader of the antisemitism legislation in the Senate, which would do one thing, fundamentally — give us a definition of antisemitism to provide a foundation so that when these campus investigations take place, there’s a standard against which to judge misconduct,” Casey said.
  • “[The people of Pennsylvania] have the choice to send someone to Washington who’s going to continue to fight for their rights, continue to invest in public safety and continue to invest in and protect our democracy,” Casey said. “And I think by the end of this race, that choice will be very, very clear.”
  • Casey reaffirmed his support of both the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade, and voting rights. He also mentioned his support for abolishing the filibuster.
  • Casey said if voting rights legislation is not passed, “we increase the likelihood of more January 6 in the future of our country.”
  • “We defended against a mob that harassed and attacked law enforcement that day,” Dunn said. “Meanwhile, Senator Casey’s opponent, Dave McCormick, has associated with those who cross police lines that I and my coworkers attempted to hold.”
  • “Pennsylvania law enforcement cannot trust the Connecticut hedge fund CEO who is willing to sell them out to protect his own bottom line,” Dunn said. “He puts profits ahead of police officers, and Pennsylvanians won’t forget that come November.”

  • Casey: “When they come down to that choice, whether it’s on basic rights, like women’s rights, voting rights, and workers’ rights, there is no common ground between me and David McCormick. None.

KDKA: Sen. Casey condemns political violence at campaign event focused on public safety
