Keystone Newsroom: “More Than 70 Mothers from the ‘Moms Oppose McCormick’ Coalition Signed a Letter Calling out Dave McCormick’s Positions on Abortion and Reproductive Healthcare”

PENNSYLVANIA — Ahead of the first Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate debate tonight, more than 70 women in over a dozen counties across the Commonwealth signed on to an open letter calling out David McCormick for his disqualifying position on abortion and reproductive care.

ICYMI: Keystone Newsroom: PA mothers sign letter calling out Dave McCormick’s anti-abortion views

  • More than 70 mothers from across Pennsylvania signed a letter highlighting Dave McCormick’s anti-abortion views. In 2022, McCormick praised the US Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • A group of more than 70 mothers from the “Moms Oppose McCormick” coalition signed a letter calling out Dave McCormick’s positions on abortion and reproductive healthcare ahead of Thursday’s debate between McCormick and US Sen. Bob Casey.
  • “As Pennsylvanians, as Americans, and as women who share a serious concern about our health, safety, and freedom, we believe that your record on women’s rights is extremely disqualifying for someone looking to represent Pennsylvania in the Senate,” the letter stated.
  • McCormick is a former Connecticut-based hedge fund manager, and Republican challenger, running against Casey in next month’s election.
  • When McCormick ran for US Senate in 2022 and lost to TV doctor Mehmet Oz, he supported banning abortions in most cases except “in the very rare instances there should be exceptions for the life of the mother.”
  • After the leak of the Dobbs decision, McCormick said during a debate that he would be “very, very happy” about the US Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, which granted women the federal right to an abortion.
  • “Just last week, reporting revealed a pregnant mother in Georgia died because she couldn’t access medically necessary care due to the state’s abortion ban. The Dobbs decision that you called ‘a great step forward’ led to the preventable death of Amber Nicole Thurman, a not yet 30-year-old woman who dreamed of being a nurse, and left her young child without a mother,” the letter said.
  • “We won’t let a self-professed anti-choice extremist be our voice in Washington. We support Senator Bob Casey’s re-election because he has proven he will stand up for our reproductive care, our families, and our rights. Dave McCormick, you’re dangerous for women, for Pennsylvanians, and for America.”
