Impacto: Sen. Ben Ray Luján joins Philadelphia leaders to support Sen. Bob Casey’s re-election
- U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) recently visited small businesses in North Philadelphia alongside Pennsylvania State Representative Danilo Burgos and Philadelphia Councilmember Quetcy Lozada. The visit, which took place on September 4th, was part of ongoing efforts to support the re-election campaign of Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), who has consistently advocated for Pennsylvania’s Latino and Hispanic communities.
- Sen. Bob Casey has been a consistent ally of these communities, focusing on inclusive economic development, healthcare access, and education. His recent efforts include securing funding for the Hispanic Center of Lehigh Valley’s workforce development program and the Berks Latino Workforce Development Corporation, which supports dual-language adult education programs.
- As the campaign progresses, Sen. Casey’s commitment to addressing the priorities of Pennsylvania’s Latino and Hispanic communities remains a key focus, as he works to ensure they are represented at both the state and national levels.
- State Representative Tara Probst opened the event with a heartfelt endorsement of Senator Casey, emphasizing his integrity and bipartisanship. “I can tell you that in today’s divisive world, [Casey is] treating people like they deserve to be treated,” said Probst, stressing the senator’s dedication to his constituents.
- Casey also touched on the broader social issues at stake in the upcoming election. “We’ve got some issues to settle when it comes to rights. Workers’ rights, women’s rights, and voting rights are all on the ballot in this election,” he urged the community to remain engaged and informed.
- The event concluded with Casey reaffirming his commitment to the Latino community and his dedication to continuing his work in the Senate. “I’m running because I want to continue to deliver… to invest in families, to invest in our workforce,” he said, highlighting the significance of the upcoming election and the need for continued advocacy and support.
Bucks County Beacon: Pennsylvania’s Latino Voters Could Have a Huge Impact on the Presidential Election
- Incumbent Senator Bob Casey’s office emphasized that he’s made fighting the rising cost of everyday items a cornerstone of his re-election campaign – employing his storied shrinkflation campaign as part of a larger effort. Understanding that the economy is of particular interest to his Hispanic constituents, Sen. Casey has dedicated resources aimed at communicating directly with Latino voters.
- Tiernan Donohue, the senator’s campaign manager, emphasized the importance of their outreach, “Senator Casey is committed to ensuring the Latino and Hispanic communities across our Commonwealth have an ally in Washington.”
- Senator Casey’s campaign promises more economic relief. The campaign points to successful legislation proposed and/or supported by Senator Casey during his most recent term in office. They highlight the Inflation Reduction Act, as a way he’s lowered costs for PA seniors enrolled in Medicare (nearly eight percent of whom are Hispanic), including rule changes that give Medicare the power to negotiate prescription prices.
- Casey was also the original co-sponsor of the Working Families Tax Relief Act, which would make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent, and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit. The U.S. Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that if passed, the legislation would increase incomes for more than 4 million Pennsylvanians, 72,000 families in Bucks County and 161,000 Latino families, statewide.
