PENNSYLVANIA — As college students return to campus, Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz joined Temple University’s WHIP Radio to discuss his support for Senator Bob Casey’s re-election and the importance of young people voting in this election.
ICYMI: WHIP Radio: Interview with Sen. Brian Schatz
- Schatz: “I do believe that the difference in this campaign and the difference in this election across the country is going to be student turnout on campuses and off.”
- Schatz: “The student body at Temple University can be the difference maker not just in this race but for the whole country.”
- Schatz: “Everything’s at stake here. We’ve made progress on reducing the cost of prescription medications. We’ve made progress on LGBTQ rights. We had been making progress on reproductive freedom and all of that is in jeopardy if Mr. McCormick wins.”
- Schatz: “[Bob Casey is] one of those rare politicians that doesn’t interact with you like he’s a politician. He’s just a regular guy who really cares a lot about his community.”
- Schatz: “A lot of people are like ‘I’m not into politics’ but the truth is politics is into you. Your rights, your freedoms, whether it’s the freedom to love who you want, marry who you want, to express your identity how you want, or the right to reproductive freedom or your economic desires for fairness for people who are coming right out of college and want to have a just a decent job and some affordable housing – all of that is at stake in this election.”
