Northeast Times: “Casey Said the Building Trades Endorsement is as Big as Any He’ll Get in the Campaign”

PENNSYLVANIA – Senator Bob Casey was endorsed by the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council, who praised Senator Casey for championing organized labor and creating thousands of good-paying union jobs. This follows the Pittsburgh Regional Building Trades Council endorsement of Senator Casey earlier this year.

Unions across Pennsylvania and the country have lined up to endorse Senator Casey in his re-election campaign, including the United Auto Workers, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and the Communication Workers of America.

Northeast Times: Building Trades backing Casey

  • The Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council last week formally endorsed U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr., who is seeking a fourth term.
  • Casey faces Republican Dave McCormick, whom [Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council Business Manager Ryan Boyer] referred to as “this guy from Connecticut”…
  • “He does not have Pennsylvania values,” Boyer said.
  • [Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker] praised Casey for supporting the infrastructure bill that brought what she said was much-needed money to SEPTA and funds for a hydrogen hub that will create 20,000 jobs in the region.
  • [U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján] referred to Casey as “good people.”
  • Casey said the building trades endorsement is as big as any he’ll get in the campaign.
  • If re-elected, he plans to support the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which would strengthen employees’ right to collectively bargain. The bill was first introduced in 2019.
  • “We’re going to pass the PRO Act,” Casey said.
  • Casey opposed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, saying it benefited big corporations and billionaires and increased the debt. He expects a similar bill next year if Donald Trump is elected president and Republicans control the Senate.
  • “My opponent has already signed up for it,” he said.
  • In the next term, Casey wants to pass a middle-class tax cut and make America energy independent.
  • “We’re going to beat those billionaires on Election Day,” Casey said.
